Community Overview
Recognized by so many nicknames, Hamilton, or “The Hammer” has always been a port city in southern Ontario which became the center of a densely populated and industrialized region at the west end of Lake Ontario known as The Golden Horseshoe. Traditionally, Hamilton accepted its identity by virtue of a local economy led by steel and heavy manufacturing industries. However, in the last decade or so, there has been a shift towards the service sector, like the health and sciences. Home to the Royal Botanical Gardens, The Bruce Trail, McMaster University(and The McMaster Children’s Hospital), and Mohawk College, Hamilton is poised for a culture change as its real estate market and geography piques the interest of those seeking an optimal location in The Golden Horseshoe area. Hamilton is also divided into “upper” and “lower” parts by The Niagara Escarpment, which runs through the middle of the city and across its entire breadth, bisecting the city and diversifying vantage points with views that run as far as Toronto and beyond. Represented by The Hamilton Tigercats of The Canadian Football League, Hamilton is definitely poised for a renaissance period.
