What's Going on Here? St. Catharines police stationConstruction is underway at the site where the new St. Catharines police station will be built on the south side of Welland Avenue between Geneva and Niagara streets.

Just the facts:

  • The land has been converted from a brownfield site and workers are currently putting in a retaining wall and installing storm water systems.
  • Part of the building’s foundation is expected to be poured in early June, followed by the erection of a superstructure and metal framing this summer.
  • Workers will also be monitoring how vibrations from the site will impact the neighbouring British Methodist Episcopal Church, Salem Chapel.
  • The new facility is being constructed by Merit Contractors Niagara for the price of $16,761,290, roughly $3.8 million over budget.
  • Original budgets did not include the price to purchase and convert the land.
  • Niagara Regional Police 1 District anticipates it will be able to move into the completed facility in the fall of 2020.
