“The government’s announcement gives us some strong timelines regarding implementation (and) construction of the project,” Angela Zangari said Tuesday.

“We anticipate to start construction in late 2022, with the hospital completed in 2026.”

The long-touted hospital passed another hurdle in the planning process Monday with the provincial government’s announcement that the project is in pre-procurement.

Infrastructure Ontario said it will start seeking potential builders in spring 2021 and award the contract in 2022.

Niagara Health confirmed Tuesday no decision has been made yet on the future of Greater Niagara General Hospital on Portage Road after the new site opens.

The new south Niagara hospital will be built on a 50-acre site near Montrose and Biggar roads in rural Niagara Falls.
